I have yet to gather sufficient data, Commander. Perhaps we should consider visiting one of the “Hazard” systems that Howards mentioned.

It will certainly be dangerous, but I believe it may yield positive results for our investigation. I am picking up two such systems on long-range sensors.

The Lekin-196 system appears to contain a rather chaotic ion storm, whereas the Esteris system is almost entirely covered by a volatile meteorite belt.

Both present their own dangers and opportunities. Which should we inspect first?

The Frontier is, indeed, a chaotic region of space. Pirates roam freely, mercenaries raid transport vessels without cause, and the major factions seem even more hostile toward each other.

There is something about this sector that seems to breed conflict. I believe this warrants further investigation.

Interesting. This nebula’s molecular makeup is rather unique, Commander. The hydrogen that would normally comprise the bulk of a nebula this size has been ionized.

The ionization process seems to have started a chain reaction within the nebula’s molecular structure, causing the cosmic dust within to become highly corrosive.

Even as I speak, our ship’s hull is beginning to slowly deteriorate. Our shields provide almost no protection at all.

I have what we need. We should retreat from this system before the nebula causes permanent damage to our vessel.

Interesting. This system appears to consist almost entirely of ionically charged particles! These particles are traveling at thousands of kilometers per hour, Commander, creating this odd visual anomaly you see before you.

This storm results from these quadrillions of particles traveling at such high speeds. As a result, our shields are under constant bombardment. That explains why they are struggling to recharge.

Oh, one more thing. I’ve been delving deeper into the Progenitor data we secured, but the sheer volume of it is… staggering. I’ve never seen such fastidious detail in research notes!

The good news is that I’ve managed to parse much of their research into the spacial anomalies of the Mortican Frontier or, as they called it, Sector Alpha-Nine.

It looks like the Progenitors took a particular interest in what they called “Hazards,” star systems that displayed particularly dangerous spacial anomalies.

I’m not sure what they hoped to gain from studying these Hazards, but my gut tells me it’s got something to do with the wild stuff we’ve seen recently.

I’m going to be busy working on this data for the next little while anyway. Why don’t you take the opportunity to explore the Frontier a bit more?
